Resources for Veterans with Mental Health Issues
I am forever grateful for all of the individuals who serve in the armed services. These brave and selfless patriots made a great sacrifice that allows us to have peace of mind stateside. It is important to remember that there is often a price to pay for this sacrifice. Soldiers often return home with mental trauma, in addition to any physical injuries. It is estimated that between 17 and 22 veterans or servicemembers take their lives each day. That’s more than 6,000 annually. The rate of suicide for veterans is more than 50% higher than that of non-veteran adults. It is our responsibility to ensure that our veterans have access to robust and thorough care once they return home.

Two organizations, the American Legion’s Be the One and Shepherd's Men, are working tirelessly to destigmatize mental health issues and provide assistance to veterans who need it. If you or a loved one is a veteran and is looking for support, I'd encourage you to check out these two organizations.

Anyone who is experiencing a mental health crisis should call or text the 988 National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You will be connected with mental health professionals who are trained to respond to these emergencies and receive free and confidential emotional support around the clock, seven days a week.

The Lifeline consists of a national network of more than 200 local crisis centers to get people the help they need, when they need it.
