Happy Friday! Hope you have had a great week. Congratulations to the UConn Women's basketball team for winning the Big East Tournament for a 12th consecutive year. The Huskies will find out their first round opponent of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Pizza and Policy (And Basketball) 

Next month, I will host a Pizza and Policy Office Hour and Women's NCAA Basketball championship watch party event at Riko's Pizza in Westport. If you have a question for me, want to share a concern, or just want to eat pizza and (hopefully) watch UConn win another championship, please stop by!

Norwalk HS Girls Wrestling Team 

The Norwalk High School Girls Wrestling team made history last weekend by winning the New England Wrestling Girls Team Championship.  This is the first time a team in Connecticut has won it all. Congratulations to the young women who have worked tirelessly to achieve this goal. Click here to read more.

DOT Update for Norwalk and Westport

2025 Pavement Preservation Program on Route 7 and 15 in Norwalk

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a pavement preservation program will begin on Route 7 and 15 in Norwalk, Trumbull, Stratford, and Milford. This project is scheduled to begin Friday, March 21 and be completed on Tuesday, October 21. The project consists of the milling and paving of routes in both directions, replacement of guardrail, curbing, sidewalks, and intersection equipment.

Route 7 North and Southbound
There will be lane closures from Friday, March 21 to Tuesday, October 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. There will also be ramp closures from Friday March 21 to Tuesday, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
 
Route 15 North and Southbound
There will be lane closures from Friday, March 21 to Tuesday, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. There will also be ramp closures from Friday March 21 to Tuesday, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
 
Traffic control signing patterns and State Troopers will guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
 

Survey Operations on I-95, North and Southbound in Westport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that survey operations will be performed on I-95 north and southbound in Westport. This project is scheduled to occur on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The project consists of Pavement Rehab, Guiderail and Roadside Safety Upgrades.

There will be a moving traffic protection pattern on I-95 north and southbound from Exit 17 to 19 Saturday, March 15 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Traffic control signing patterns and CTDOT Crash Trucks will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.


 

Public Information Meeting Regarding Traffic Control Signal Replacements in Southwest Connecticut 

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning traffic control signal replacements in Southwest Connecticut (District 3) on Tuesday, March 25, at 6:00 p.m. 
 
The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please click here.

Right-of-way impacts are expected to be minimal around new signal equipment and sidewalks at some project intersections. 
 
Construction is expected to begin winter 2026. The estimated cost is $16 million, with 100% state funds.
 
Individuals with limited internet access can listen to the meeting by calling (877) 853-5257 and enter Meeting ID 854 7788 3366. Individuals with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). Individuals with limited internet access may also request that project information be mailed to them within one week by contacting Kaethe Podgorski at DOTSignalReplacements@ct.gov or (860) 594-2189.
 
Language assistance may be requested by contacting the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five business days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance. 
 
This meeting will also be livestreamed on the CTDOT YouTube channel; no registration is required. Non-English language closed captioning will be available on Zoom and YouTube. The recording will also be posted immediately following the meeting in the list of CTDOT virtual public meetings at portal.ct.gov/ctdotVPIMarchive.
 
Members of the public can submit comments and questions during the two-week public comment period following the meeting. Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship Fund to Announce 2025 Recipient

The 29th recipient the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the most outstanding senior in the Norwalk High School class of 2025, will be announced at the Fund's annual Scholarship Presentation and Benefit Dinner Dance on April the 5th at The Waters Edge in Darien.

The $130,000 scholarship will be awarded to the most outstanding senior the Norwalk High School class of 2025 for demonstrated involvements and accomplishments across the spectrum of academics, athletics, arts, and community and religious service.

The Norwalk High School scholarship is one of 17 scholarship supported by the Fund in 2025. Since the Fund’s inception, almost $3.1 million gifts of education have been awarded to 252 recipients demonstrating achievements in the areas in which Kevin participated and excelled.

Route 1 Public Workshop

The city of Norwalk is looking for your feedback on the future of Route 1 Connecticut.

Join the City’s Transportation, Mobility, and Parking Team, along with the Western Connecticut Council of Governments, and FHI Studios (now IMEG), for a public information meeting on Monday, March 24th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Jefferson Elementary School, located at 75 Van Buren Avenue, as part of the Route 1 Corridor Master Plan Study.

During the public meeting, the community will have the opportunity to participate in a break-out session to view proposed conceptual plans at key locations along the Route 1 Corridor, provide valuable feedback, and engage directly with the project team in a collaborative, 1-on-1 setting. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make your voice heard and help shape the future of Route 1.

Norwalk’s third annual Celebrate Early Childhood event will be held on Saturday, March 15, 10 AM-1 PM in the Magnificent Room in the SoNo Collection. This free event is perfect for families with young children. 20 Norwalk agencies, businesses and organizations will have activities and giveaways for children and resources for parents and caregivers. Family and Children’s Agency will once again host a large, “spare parts” play area.

Westport Museum for History and Culture's Spring Cultural Fellowship Evening

The Westport Museum for History and Culture will hold its Spring Cultural Fellowship Evening on Saturday, March 15 from 6-8pm!  This free event celebrates the many different traditions that are celebrated around the world. Several organizations, including AAPI Westport, will have tables highlighting international celebrations and traditions, including Indigenous Spring Festivities, Purim, Noruz, Ramadan, Holi, Easter, Songkran, and others.

Master Tree Plan for Norwalk

Attention Norwalk residents - the City is looking for your input for their Tree Master Plan!  

The Tree Master Plan will guide the future of tree growth and management in our City’s public and green spaces. Come share what you’d like to see at a public workshop on March 20, 2025 in the Community Room at City Hall.
