STATE REPRESENTATIVE SARAH KEITT APPLAUDS FUNDING FOR FAIRFIELD & TRUMBULL IN THE STATE BUDGET

Fairfield and Trumbull will be receiving additional state funding designed to help close critical gaps in school budgets and town finances without forcing communities to raise property taxes.

State Representatives Jennifer Leeper (D-Fairfield, Southport), Cristin McCarthy Vahey (D-Fairfield, Bridgeport), and Sarah Keitt (D-Fairfield, Trumbull) welcome key investments for Fairfield schools in the state budget, supporting school rebuilding efforts, HVAC upgrades, and an Education Equalization Grant increase. Fairfield’s funding from the state totals $9.5 million.

The funding includes:

  • A 75% state reimbursement grant for the rebuild of Timothy Dwight Elementary School;
  • Reimbursement eligibility for the Tomlinson Middle School HVAC project; and
  • An additional $122,691 in Education Equalization Grant funds

“These funds will provide students with a long-awaited modernized Dwight Elementary School, necessary air quality improvements, and will deliver funding that better reflects Fairfield’s needs, all while easing the burden on local taxpayers,” Reps. Leeper, McCarthy Vahey, and Keitt said. “Thank you to our local leaders for their work and collaboration, and to our legislative colleagues and Governor Ned Lamont for their continued support.”

In addition to Fairfield, Representative Keitt is celebrating state funding for Trumbull, totaling $7.1 million.

The Trumbull funding includes:

  • An additional $136,682 in Education Cost-Sharing Funds
  • $125,054 in one-time Municipal Aid
  • $7,531 for Trumbull’s Fire Departments

Total Funding Increases for Education & Municipal:

  • Fairfield: $940,799
  • Trumbull: $261,736

The budget passed the Senate 30-6 Saturday afternoon and was passed by the House of Representatives Saturday evening by a vote of 127-21-3.

“With broad bipartisan support, we finalized a 2027 budget that significantly boosts support for the state’s education system, increases crucial investments in housing and transportation, supports town and city budgets, and more—all while safeguarding the state's strong fiscal outlook, including $1 billion toward paying down long-term debt,” said Rep. Keitt.

Rep. Keitt represents the 134th District, which includes Fairfield and Trumbull.
