URGENT: Second Siting Council Public Hearing

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

First, I want to thank you for all of your engagement and advocacy on our battle with UI and reforming the Siting Council. I have been so grateful for your partnership in this fight. There is another critical public hearing happening this week, and I would love for you to testify.

The Government Administration and Elections Committee will hold a public hearing Wednesday, March 13 at 11:00am in Room 1A of the Legislative Office Building and on Zoom on HB 5453: AN ACT CONCERNING THE MEMBERSHIP AND PROCESSES OF THE SITING COUNCIL.

The bill as written seeks to:

  • Make changes to the membership of the Connecticut Siting Council;
  • Require additional cost-benefit analysis and information concerning related projects for certain proposed facilities;
  • Require additional notifications to the owner of property intended to be condemned; and
  • Make additional revisions to the process for granting applications for a certificate.

Based on our own activism in our community, it is clear the Siting Council needs significant revisions, and I hope you'll testify tomorrow to express your opinion on this matter.
