Legislative Update for Sept. 30, 2025

September 30, 2025

One of the most important things that I do is to remain connected to the residents of the 37th District. I do my best to reach out in various ways, including my Bike Tour.

Another way is through my Constituent Corners -- the latest of which will be on Sunday, Oct. 5, at La Belle Aurore in Niantic, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Come share what’s on your mind, ask questions, or just say hello — and while you’re there, don’t miss out on their great brunch!

Hope to see you there!

Two 'A's' on My Report Card

As a teacher and your state representative, I know firsthand how vital strong public schools are for our kids and communities.

That’s why I’m proud to share my Connecticut Education Association report card and be a member myself.

I’ll always support educators, students, and families in our work to strengthen public education in East Lyme, Salem, Montville, and across Connecticut.

I'm also proud to share that I’ve maintained 100% attendance this session — every vote, every time.

Showing up matters. You sent me to Hartford to be your voice; I take that responsibility seriously.

Grateful for the chance to represent East Lyme, Salem, and Montville — and I’ll keep showing up for you.

National Public Lands Day

Sept. 28 was National Public Lands Day, a reminder of how important it is to preserve and protect the natural spaces that make Connecticut special.

Standing here at Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve, I’m reminded that protecting our environment isn’t just about today — it’s about ensuring future generations can enjoy these trails, forests, and waterways just as we do.

Public lands connect us to nature, strengthen our communities, and remind us why conservation matters. Let’s keep fighting to protect them.

Education Builds Citizens and Communities

As both a teacher and a legislator, I see every day how public education shapes our future. If we want students to be ready for careers, civic life, and community leadership, we need to provide our schools with the resources, facilities, and support they deserve.

Investing in education isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s essential for our economy, our democracy, and our future.

Northeast Public Health Collaborative

Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and New York City officially announced the formation of the Northeast Public Health Collaborative. This voluntary regional partnership aims to strengthen public health coordination, share expertise, and improve preparedness across state lines.

The Collaborative’s shared purpose is to work together in new ways – optimizing the use of shared resources, innovating and reimagining core services – to ensure trust in public health, respond to public health threats, advance community health and strengthen confidence in vaccines and science-based medicine.

Around the 37th

Seventy percent of Bay Point residents (formerly Windward Village) have voted to form a tenant union — the 20th in Connecticut and the first in New London County. This is a huge step for fairness and community power.

I’ve been pushing for a Fair Rent Commission in East Lyme for years, but it was these residents who made it a reality. Now, by organizing together, they’ve not only strengthened their own community but made our entire town stronger.

I couldn’t be prouder to stand with them and cheer them on. Their voices matter, and now it’s up to ownership to come to the table.

Last week I spent the day in Montville as part of my listening tour — 135 doors and 13 miles later, what stood out most wasn’t the numbers, but the conversations. I’m so grateful to everyone who talked with me and shared what’s on their mind. These stories and concerns guide me in Hartford, and I look forward to continuing the conversation.
