Raising Awareness To Rising Homeless Population

We are dealing with a human crisis as homelessness continues to ramp up in our state. According to the latest data from Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, there are 1,051 people who are homeless in our state including 214 in Fairfield County alone.

These statistics show there is an urgent need for a solution to ensure everyone can access safe and warm shelter. I continue to work on homeless cases and housing issues to try to prevent homelessness at the state level.

To stay updated on the latest figures and for more information, please contact Amber Freeman, Director of Training, Technical Assistance and Community Impact at afreeman@cceh.org.

Helping Pets In Need
Outreach To Pets In Need (OPIN) has supported homeless needs for pets by donating food and litter. OPIN recently shared that 25 people attended its annual dog behavior lecture in January. The organization hopes participants gained more insight into a dog’s mind.
OPIN thanks Orangetheory Ridgefield, CT, for sponsoring a donation exercise class in honor of OPIN. Organizers had fun getting together with fellow pet lovers and, exercise enthusiasts!

New Bus Service in Stamford

The state has launched a new, crosstown bus route in Stamford connecting the Springdale, Glenbrook, and Cove neighborhoods. This new 349 route improves service and travel time by eliminating the need for a transfer at the Stamford Transportation Center. CT Transit buses will run hourly and seven days a week.

Buses on the 349 route will depart from the Cove East Side via Weed Avenue, operate via East Main Street to Courland Avenue, service Glenbrook railroad station, operate to Hope Street, and then traverse back to Cove.

This new route is part of a larger package of bus service expansions totaling more than $18 million in the biennial state budget. The state created new routes after getting feedback from customers, employees, students, and stakeholders. More bus service will connect riders with valuable jobs, housing, and other services while increasing connectivity throughout the state.
