Community Connectivity Grant Program

November 21, 2025

The state is awarding nearly $12 million in grants to 17 towns and cities for projects that will improve transportation safety and mobility. They  are being awarded through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Community Connectivity Grant Program. Now in its seventh round of awards, this state-funded program provides financial support for local infrastructure initiatives that make conditions safer and more accommodating for pedestrians and bicyclists in urban, suburban, and rural centers.

I am pleased to announce that Wethersfield will be receiving $750,000 for sidewalk safety, specifically for gap closure and expansion of predetermined sidewalks in town.

This project addresses a critical need for safer, more accessible, and better-connected pedestrian infrastructure throughout Wethersfield. By closing existing sidewalk gaps and extending pathways to vital destinations this initiative will greatly improve the safety and mobility of all residents, particularly children, seniors, and those with disabilities.

Wethersfield’s commitment to improving multimodal transportation and promoting equity is evident in its Complete Streets Policy and stakeholder engagement. The improvements align with the State and regional Complete Streets and Safe Routes to School priorities and are located within areas that have been assessed through Capitol Region Council of Governments’ Walk Audits and reviewed by the Town’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Stakeholders Advisory Committee.

I commend the town for its proactive approach. These investments are not only timely but essential for ensuring safe and sustainable access for all modes of transportation and travelers.
