$4 Million for Bridge Improvements in Waterbury

July 16, 2025

I am thrilled to share some exciting news: the City of Waterbury will receive approximately $4 million from the state to support the replacement of the Brown Street Bridge over Great Brook. This is a major win for our community – improving infrastructure, enhancing public safety, and creating good-paying construction jobs.

This funding comes as part of a broader $17.3 million investment through the State Local Bridge Program, which is supporting 15 projects across Connecticut. The program is designed to help municipalities maintain and modernize locally owned bridges, ensuring they remain safe and reliable for all travelers.

Importantly, the Local Bridge Program operates as a cost-sharing initiative, covering 50% of the total project cost – a huge help for cities like Waterbury where infrastructure repairs are urgent but often unaffordable without state support.

This investment reflects a long-term commitment to building stronger, safer communities.
