Co-Sponsored Bill Passes the House

April 17, 2019

The Connecticut House of Representatives was in session today and I want to highlight an important bill that I am happy to share the House passed:

HB 5521, An Act Expanding Required Health Insurance Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions

The bill protects Connecticut residents by expanding the "pre-existing conditions provision" to include pre-existing conditions regardless of whether medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received for such conditions prior to the effective date of coverage under a health insurance policy or plan.

In addition, the bill requires short-term insurance policies to include the same pre-existing conditions provision as other individual and group health insurance policies. The bill also repeals redundant exceptions that limit mandatory coverage for breast cancer survivors.

I am proud to have co-sponsored a legislation that will make health care more accessible. The bill will now be considered by the Senate.
