Positivity for the Future

“I can’t stress enough the importance of getting tested, it’s easier than ever, no insurance required, 3 questions asked! I’m asking all communities of color and the undocumented communities get tested!” - State Rep. Geraldo Reyes

Governor Ned Lamont announced his administration has released documents detailing specific rules for businesses under Phase 2 of Connecticut’s Reopening plans must follow.

Tuesday I joined the Lieutenant Governor and members of the Complete Count Committee to provide updates on CT's Census responsiveness.

Though the state and Waterbury are performing well in terms of overall responsiveness, the same cannot be said for the state's hard-to-count areas, which so far are responding even less than they did in 2010.

An accurate count is incredibly important for determining both federal funding to our state and state funding to our city. While we can’t physically go to doors, we will continue working with local clergy and non-profit leaders, and figure out more creative ways to engage members of these hard-to-count communities - like the Census vans driving around Waterbury reminding people to fill out their forms and offer assistance in English, Spanish, and Albanian.

Some other changes have also been made this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to complete your 2020 census has been extended; you now have until October 31st.

This is also the first census in American History where residents can use the internet to fill out the questionnaire, just visit the 2020 census website.
