DMV reopens on limited basis

June 24, 2020

The Department of Motor Vehicles is up and rolling again, though on a limited, appointment-only basis following a plan it developed for reopening this week.

Governor Ned Lamont addressed the DMV reopening during his news briefing Tuesday night.

New drivers as well as those looking to register a new vehicle will be allowed to start making appointments at select DMV branches.

The DMV office in Danbury, at 2 Lee Mac Avenue, will be offering Learner's Permit Knowledge. Registration services (new registrations) will be available at this location June 30. Both the Learner's permit and registration services are offered by appointment only. Appointments can be made by going here.

Customers can drop off registration paperwork at the Danbury DMV location. Customers can leave an envelope filled with their required documents at a drop-off box within the office entrance.

Road tests have also resumed, and DMV is calling customers to reschedule appointments that were previously canceled. Check and or credit card are acceptable forms of payment.

Safety precautions, such as plexiglass barriers and screening processes have been put into place to protect both DMV workers and their customers, the latter of which will be required to take temperature scans at arrival.
