Hamden Student Creates Scholarship Fund for Classmates

July 28, 2020

Graduating Hamden High senior Mareshah White recognized the hardship created by the COVID pandemic. Because of the public health emergency, White and her classmates spent the spring of their senior year studying from home, away from classmates, teachers and staff. They also wouldn't get to participate in activities normally associated with the last months of a high school career. There would be no prom or traditional graduation ceremony.

White understood how the pandemic was hindering peoples' earnings, too, possibly forcing some of her classmates to reconsider going to college. So she partnered with The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven which procured a $15,000 donation from AT&T to help start a college scholarship fund for seniors.
