Foodshare’s Institute for Hunger Research & Solutions

Created in 2019, Foodshare’s Institute serves as a resource for food banks and community partners by developing innovative and evidence-based programs that promote health and long-term solutions to hunger. The Institute conducts research and provides trainings and services so that others can implement best practices within the charitable food network.

The Institute conducted two guest surveys at the Rentschler Field distribution to help identify the impact of COVID-19. With over 1,400 total participants, the surveys helped Foodshare understand both the economic impact of the crisis and how we can best serve guests in the coming months. Here are a few of the results:

In response to the survey results, Foodshare’s Institute is partnering with Feeding America, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the Houston Food Bank and Urban Alliance to coordinate an Economic Shock Pilot program. Through the pilot, Foodshare’s Institute will provide referrals for additional resources and budget coaching to households with children, with the goal of helping people rebound from the economic impact of COVID-19 and get back on their feet.

For more information about the Institute or the Economic Shock Pilot, contact Katie Martin at kmartin@foodshare.org.

Turkey and Thirty

Because of COVID-19 we won’t be out in the community collecting turkeys this year, but we need your support more than ever. Foodshare aims to purchase enough turkeys for every family in need. This year we are asking the community to show their support for our Turkey and Thirty celebration by donating online. Stay tuned!
