Radiological Society of Connecticut Recognizes Representative Kerry Wood

The Radiological Society of Connecticut praises Representative Kerry Wood’s advocacy of preventive breast cancer screenings and has made Representative Wood a “Legislative Champion” for her strong support and advocacy of early breast cancer screenings by women.

“Rep. Kerry Wood has been a strong and tenacious advocate for programs that provide help to women who need assistance with their annual mammograms.   We appreciate her work on this issue and believe that lives will be saved as more women have the important imaging test,” said Michael Crain, MD, president of the society.

Legislation was enacted in 2019 to provide breast cancer screenings to women with no out-of-pocket expenses.

“This legislation was essential to encourage women to have the screening test that they might otherwise skip due to the cost involved in out-of-pocket expenses,” Linda Kowalski, Executive Director of the Society said.  “As a woman, I’m very attuned to the fact that early detection can save lives.”

Recent advances in Connecticut include mandating insurance coverage of additional tests for women who are at a higher risk for breast cancer due to their age or due to having dense breast tissue.
