Like most Americans, I am shocked by the events in our nation's capitol yesterday. I am especially disturbed by the blatant disparity in the treatment of these so-called protestors by law enforcement. Clearly, there were officers who appeared to be complicit with these far right-wing extremists determined to disrupt the democratic process and overturn the results of a fair election.

Had the insurgents been Black, they would have been met with the brute force we saw during last summer's protests against police brutality, racial injustice and police accountability. Some of these issues will be taken up in the legislature this session and I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue our progress toward equality, transparency and accountability.
