Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day

January 18, 2021

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. On the third Monday of January, we take a moment to celebrate  the life and accomplishments of  one of the most prominent civil rights leaders in American history. Dr. King and his peers pushed the federal government to fulfil a promise made in the Declaration of Independence, that "all men are created equal." His work led to civil rights legislation that still impacts our society today.

MLK Day is also a national day of service If you have the day off, I'd encourage you to consider volunteering in your community. Click here to find an opportunity near you.

The Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford will host an in person and virtual event to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Click here to learn more

This country has made considerable progress since the civil rights movement. However, we cannot be content with steps in the right direction. The only way to turn Dr. King's dream into a reality is to fight "until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream."  I will do everything in my power to advocate for necessary and meaningful change.
