Rep. Wood Announces $25,000 Grant from James M. Cox Foundation for Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank

February 25, 2021

With the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic being felt by Connecticut families and individuals, local food distribution facilities continue to see strong demand from area residents. That’s why Representative Kerry Wood is proud to announce today that Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank, a local food pantry providing hospitality to those in need, will benefit from a second $25,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation.

The James M. Cox Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises and the parent company of Cox Communications and Cox Automotive. In response to the growing strain on feeding the community, the foundation announced a $25,000 donation to support people in need where Cox lives and works earlier this year, with similar grants allocated to Enfield Loaves and Fishes and Cheshire Community Food Pantry.

"When it comes to taking care of your own, the Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank has done a phenomenal job of keeping up with unprecedented need from our friends and neighbors,” said Representative Wood. “As we continue to see our communities recover, it’s clear we’re still not quite out of the woods – and the continued support of the James M. Cox Foundation has been essential to organizations like these having a pivotal role in the recovery.”

The Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank has steadfastly addressed the increased demand for food assistance as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency and has continued to see record high demand throughout the fall and winter seasons.

"While we may be looking ahead to brighter days, food and clothing pantries like ours continue to deal with the realities of what’s right in front of us,” said Erica Texeira, Assistant Director of Social and Youth Services, Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank. “Our community will be coming back to life in the months that follow, and we are grateful for Representative Wood and the James M. Cox Foundation for helping us fulfill our mission through this generous donation.”
