Waterbury non-profits eligible for security grants

March 3, 2021

$5,000,000 is being made available for nonprofit organizations that are at-risk of violence and hate. The State Bond Commission approved the funding at its special meeting last month.

I worked with our Jewish neighbors including the Yeshiva community, Jewish Federation, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Senator Joan Hartley and Governor Ned Lamont to get this funding approved. Eligible nonprofits may seek up to $50,000 to cover expenses used for security infrastructure improvements and upgrades. The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is administering the grants.

Given the violent and racist events in recent months, these grants are timely. I am grateful our Jewish community will have the opportunity to strengthen their security measures.
