Rep. Palm named vice chair of Environment Committee

March 4, 2021

Connecticut House Speaker Matthew Ritter (D-Hartford) announced the appointment of Rep. Christine Palm (D-Chester, Deep River, Essex, Haddam) as the new vice chair of the Environment Committee.

Rep. Palm had already been serving as a member of the Environment Committee. This change comes as part of a series of committee reassignments following the election of Rep. Patricia Billie Miller to the State Senate.

“Rep. Palm is one of the most dedicated environmental advocates in the legislature, as evidenced by the numerous environmental bills she has already either introduced or co-sponsored this session,” said Speaker Ritter. “I believe her leadership on this issue makes her the perfect choice to serve as vice chair of this committee.”

“I wish to thank Speaker Ritter and Majority Leader Rojas for entrusting me with this responsibility,” said Rep. Palm. “My district is made up of towns that border the Connecticut River, so my constituents and I are very cognizant of the challenges our state and world face from a changing climate. We must commit to policies that help cut our carbon footprint, reduce the use of harmful chemicals, find equitable and efficient ways to handle solid waste management, promote environmental justice, awareness and education, and protect our state’s precious ecosystem for future generations.”

Rep. Palm, who was first elected to represent the 36th District in the House of Representatives in 2018, also serves as the Democratic Leader of the Internship Committee and is a member of both the Judiciary Committee and the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
