This is a time to recognize all of the incredible women who have fought for our rights over the past 200 years, as well as all of the incredible women who make our communities a better place today. 
 
Despite the inequalities of patriarchy which persist, particularly impacting women of color, this year has already been monumental for all women. 

Thus far in 2021, young girls witnessed the inauguration of Kamala Harris, the first female, first African-American, and first South East Asian- American Vice President of the United States. 

On Sunday, Cholé Zhao became the first Asian female to win best director at the Golden Globes, and the first woman to win the award in nearly 40 years for her film 'Nomadland'.

Furthermore, after the 2020 election, the Connecticut Legislature has more women serving than ever before. While this is an accomplishment to be celebrated, I want to encourage more women to engage in Connecticut politics so that our legislature reflects our communities. This increase in representation and recognition is vital.

As we celebrate women's history and the incredible women in our lives, let us continue to fight for equity 365 days a year.
