Appropriations Committee Budget Invests in Working Families, Education, Long-Term Savings

April 22, 2021

House Democratic leaders praise budget proposal that maximizes federal relief funds to respond to the ongoing pandemic and invest in Connecticut's future for all residents.

"Chairs Toni Walker and Cathy Osten and their members did incredible work during an historically volatile year to produce a responsible, caring budget for the people of Connecticut. This budget maximizes federal relief dollars as well as Medicaid funding - both critical for responding to the ongoing pandemic as well as ensuring we receive every federal dollar we are owed. I was clear when I was elected Speaker, that I would not support an austerity budget, and this is far from that – We invest in families, mental health needs, our cities, workforce training, and higher education. We still have more work to do before we vote on the final budget but this is a great first step."
-Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D-Hartford)

Budget

“I thank Chairs Toni Walker and Cathy Osten, and the entire Appropriations Committee for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a sustainable, forward-looking budget that meets the needs of this moment in our state's history. During these unprecedented times, as we work to recover from the economic fallout of the pandemic, this budget ensures that Connecticut receives every federal relief dollar it is owed and maximizes the funding already received and invests further in the programs that were vital to our response efforts. This budget makes critical investments in our families and our communities' futures with initiatives to support workforce training and higher education.”
-House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D-East Hartford/Manchester)
