Kenoshia Lake and Candlewood Lake get DEEP grants

May 4, 2021

Today, The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced Candlewood Lake and Lake Kenosia will be the recipients of the inaugural round of grant funding through the Aquatic Invasive Species Grant Program.

These grants were made possible in 2019 by legislation I co-sponsored to establish an Aquatic Invasive Species Stamp fee (Public Act 19-190). The stamp applies to all registered boats using Connecticut waters to provide a dedicated funding source to protect the state’s lakes, ponds and rivers by addressing aquatic invasive species and cyanobacteria blooms.

Candlewood Lake and Lake Kenosia are two of the nicest places to live near and visit. Too many aquatic weeds clog swim areas, making our lakes less desirable. I am confident this first step will help to protect the lakes for future generations, and I commend the Candlewood Lake Authority and Lake Kenosia Commission for their wise stewardship efforts over the years.
