House passes ATV legislation

May 13, 2021

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed HB 5726 An Act Concerning the Seizure of All-Terrain Vehicles. I am proud to be a co-sponsor and strong supporter of this legislation which passed with broad bipartisan support, 139-5, and sent to the Senate for consideration.

HB 5726 allows ALL municipalities to seize ATVs under certain conditions in accordance with local ordinances. ATVs subject to forfeiture under municipal ordinance will be required to be sold at public auction with the revenue going to the city or town.

In fiscal year 2020, the City of Waterbury sold five ATVs at auction in FY 20 resulting in a $3,791 gain in revenue.

To report possible illegal ATV operation in your neighborhood, call the Waterbury Police Department ATV Tip Line at (203) 573-6662 or send an email to atvtips@waterburyct.org.

Thanks to all the men and women from the Waterbury Police Department who have worked hard on the ATV issue.

I urge the Senate to do approve this bill and the governor to sign it into law.
