Over $4.2M in Grant Funding for Hamden Schools

May 21, 2021
I am pleased to report that yesterday, the State awarded Hamden’s Schools $4,269,674 in grant funding for renovation projects at two of Hamden's oldest elementary schools.

West Woods Elementary School was awarded $1,724,288 for a roof replacement, and $1,090,363 for window replacements.

Dunbar Hill Elementary School was awarded $1,315,304 for a roof replacement, and $139,719 for window replacements.

Securing such bonding for our school has always been a top priority of mine and I was happy to assist in this effort. These funds will provide the financial assistance needed to complete these necessary updates for two of our most in-need of repair elementary schools. As a former Board of Education member and, of course, as a town taxpayer, I know how critical this funding is to make sure the repairs get made while also not imposing the cost on the town. I want to offer a special thanks to the State's School Construction Unit, led by Konstantinos Diamantis, for working with me and the school system to make sure these applications aligned with the State's goals and ensure that they were properly submitted, reviewed and approved.

Jody Goeler, Superintendent of Hamden Public Schools, was elated to hear the news and shared with us that,

"These projects offer much-needed updates and maintenance to our facilities for an infrastructural integrity that will allow access to the buildings for years to come. Our town could not be more pleased with this awarded funding – which is slated to cover 2/3 of the projected costs – minimizing the cost for tax-payers. This is the first time in a number of years that Hamden has been awarded – or even applied for – non-priority project grants, and I would like to thank my CFO Tom Ariola, Chris Dauer and Arturo Cadrello-Perez with the Board of Education's Operations Committee, as well as Representative Mike D'Agostino for championing this application each step in the process."

Upon receiving approval on the requested grant funding, Hamden Public Schools has initiated the planning process, and hope to begin these projects as soon as possible.
