H.B. 6374 Passes in the House

May 26, 2021

The House of Representatives passed  H.B. 6374An Act Concerning Sexual Misconduct on College Campuses.

This piece of legislation would provide amnesty to students who report an assault so that they will not be punished for  violating their school's  drugs or alcohol policy.

HB 6374 would also allow post secondary institutions to collect information about sexual violence incidents on campus.

Colleges and universities also would establish a council that will be required to submit a report about the surveys to the General Assembly every two years.

This bill helps create a safer, more welcoming environment for survivors of sexual violence on college campuses.

To more effectively combat sexual assault on our college campuses, we must work to gain a comprehensive understanding of student's insights and concerns. HB 6374 allows for a step toward this understanding by ensuring that universities regularly survey students to better understand campus climate and the accessibility of resources.
