Improvements to Trains in CT

Earlier this week, Governor Lamont introduced Time For CT, a comprehensive plan that aims to safely improve the safety and efficiency of train service in the state. The goal is to cut 10 minutes from commuter's travel time by 2022. 

The plan includes also includes investment in infrastructure and the rail fleet, future super-express service will save people up to 25 minutes by 2035.  

This plan will not only modernize our aging rail system and improve commute times for workers, it was also create local job opportunities - the plan estimates that 45,000 direct construction jobs will be generated over 15 years.

Below are some additional highlights from the plan:

  • Use existing assets and stay within existing right-of-way
  • Reduce impacts of climate change by attracting more people out of their cars
  • Improve the resiliency of the New Haven Line
  • Provide a new fleet for faster trip times and an improved passenger experience
  • Improve access to education, jobs, and urban centers
  • Support economic recovery from COVID through improved service
