COVID-19 Delta Variant Updates

July 21, 2021
Despite Connecticut being ranked one of the top states in the country for COVID-19 response efforts and vaccination rates, it is still vital to remember that the pandemic is not over. As we continue down our path toward normalcy again, be alert and take proper safety precautions when necessary. As expected, the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is starting to spread among a large percentage of the population that has not been fully vaccinated.

What you need to know:

For the first time since mid-May, Connecticut’s COVID daily positivity rate has topped 2%.

Yesterday, the state reported that 218 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of 8,055 new tests for a positivity rate of 2.71%, which is the highest we have recorded in Connecticut since May 11. The seven-day positivity rate climbed to 1.54%, the highest since May 12. Hospitalizations also saw an increase, which brought us to 54 patients statewide, the highest since a steady drop in June.

The best protection against Delta is the vaccine.

If you, or someone you know has not yet gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, I want to encourage you to schedule an appointment, by clicking the button below, or going to any of the walk-up vaccine clinics in our community. Please also remember, the FDA approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for teens and kids between the ages of 12 and 15.

The CDC's current guidance does permit those who are fully vaccinated to participate in activities as you did prior to the pandemic. In line with this, our state doesn't currently have any regulated mask mandate other than the instances listed below:

  • Schools
  • Airplanes
  • Buses
  • Trains
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing homes and other high-risk environments
  • Private businesses can also still require masks to be worn by patrons and customers

Keeping this in mind, Connecticut is using an honor system regarding mask use, so if you would feel more comfortable wearing a mask around people who you do not know, please continue to do what will make you feel safe.
