Bill Signing in Groton

August 2, 2021

Earlier today, Governor Lamont held a bill signing ceremony in Groton for  Public Act 21-152. This bill, which I cosigned, eliminates the hurdles that the spouses and partners of military members often face when looking for employment.

Certain professions require specific state certifications and many cannot be obtained in a timely matter. As a result, the spouse of a military member may struggle to find employment in their field.

This piece of legislation simplifies the process - through PA 21-152, an individual can be issued the appropriate credential  if they meet the following criteria:

  • Practiced safely under another state’s license for at least four years
  • Meets examination requirements as defined under state statutes
  • Completes the necessary background checks.

This is a huge victory for military families. It is crucial that we make the lives of military members stationed in our state as seamless and simple as possible. I am thrilled that this bill was signed into law and hope the legislature will continue to push for legislation that support our military  families.
