The East Windsor Police Department is being recognized for their innovative new policing program. The event will take place this afternoon at 1:30 pm in front of the East Windsor Police Department.

The goal of the Mental Health Team is to provide help to  individuals in need rather than entering them into the criminal justice system. This program will provide officers with the tools and the training necessary to effectively manage individuals who are having a mental health emergency.

Instead of punishing these individuals and using force, the Mental Health Team will rely on deescalating techniques and push for rehabilitation programs.

The program also provides mental health support to the officers and other staff who experience high levels of emotional stress on a daily basis. The support will include networking, support, references, resources, and ultimately connecting people with counseling.

The Mental Health Team will ensure all of our town’s residents are protected and prioritized. Please join us on Tuesday to celebrate EWPD’s great accomplishment.
