Visiting the Whitney Center to Honor Veterans

November 23, 2021
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and thinking about all we are thankful for in our community, I wanted to share a story about a recent visit I had at the Whitney Center the week of Veteran’s Day earlier this November.

As many of you know, the Whitney Center is a non-profit life plan community that includes residents from across the State and beyond. I was able to visit along with their new Resident’s Government Affairs Advisory Council, Mike Rambarose, CEO and Kenneth Sandberg, Vice President of Lifestyle Services.

It was a great opportunity to catch up to learn more about the recent developments at the Whitney Center including their memory support programs, Thrive at Home Program and future plans.

It also served as great reminder of how very fortunate we are not only to have such a tremendous, top-rate retirement community right here in Hamden to keep loved ones close, but also for all of the amazing residents that live there, that help contribute and give back to our community immeasurably. This group of more than 300 residents are not only some of our Veteran’s and some members of the Greatest Generation, but are also very active and participate in many local activities, groups, social and charitable causes.

Many of the residents also volunteer at our local schools through reading and mentorship programs as they have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. In addition, they routinely bring to our town prominent speakers and groups to host forums and presentations on a wide variety of relevant and timely topics, illustrating that continuing education is a lifetime endeavor.

I really enjoyed my time spent with the Whitney Center visiting with residents to learn more about this true gem right here in our own community and encourage you to do the same. I very much am looking forward to continuing the dialogue with them about how they can become even more a part of our town and how we can help assist them in their mission of providing quality senior living, personal growth and development and maintain a productive and collaborative relationship with us all.

So as you spend time with loved ones this holiday season please also keep in mind the many residents and organizations in our community that we can truly be thankful for.

Wishing you and yours a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!
