REP. COMEY BRINGS BOND FUNDS TO BRANFORD

State Representative Robin Comey (D-Branford) is pleased to announce the expected approval of funding she secured for the Short Beach Historic District Traffic Calming Project. The $750,000 state grant is on next week's State Bond Commission Agenda.

"I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to the governor for prioritizing this project in this round of bonding allocations," said Rep. Comey. "The safety of the residents of Short Beach and the pedestrians, bikers, and motorists who travel this busy corridor has been of great concern for as long as I can remember. I’ve been working with the neighborhood and Civic Association of Short Beach for more than a decade on these quality of life issues. With the recent designation of the area as an Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, the timing for this funding is perfect. I am looking forward to seeing this project get off the ground and incorporating elements that will improve traffic flow and prioritize pedestrian safety."

Governor Ned Lamont said, “Short Beach is one of the most beautiful areas of Connecticut’s shoreline. I am glad that the state can partner with the Town of Branford on the release of this state funding to support a project that will help ensure the neighborhood remains safe for pedestrians and cyclists.”

The $750,000 grant, part of the Bond Commission Urban Act funding, will fund improvements including crosswalks, sidewalks, lighting, curbs, signage and landscaping on Route 142 through the center of Short Beach from Double Beach Road to the East Haven town line at the Farm River.

“The Town welcomes the state’s investment to improve Route 142," said Jamie Cosgrove, Branford's First Selectman.  "The introduction of traffic calming measures will address the concerns of residents for pedestrian safety and will help maintain the vitality of the historic Short Beach neighborhood.”

The State Bond Commission will meet on Tuesday December 21, 2021 to vote the latest agenda.

Robin Comey represents the 102nd District in Branford. She is vice chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, a member of the Education Committee and the Committee on Children.
