Johnson Opposes Hospital Funding Cuts

Rep. Susan Johnson and others called for passage of legislation, (HB 5588), An Act Concerning The Timing Of Payments From Supplemental Inpatient Payment Pools For Short-Term General Hospitals. The bill would make hospitals exempt from paying taxes in the case that the state withholds Medicaid funds.

A report filed with the Office of Health Care Access by at least 25 hospitals showed at least eight lost money in 2015, while the two biggest hospitals, Hartford Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital, had healthy profit margins of around 4.99 percent and 4.33 percent. Windham Hospital was one of the hospitals that lost money.
