Gas Tax Savings and More for CT Residents

March 23, 2022

With gas prices still averaging more than $4 per gallon in Connecticut, today, I voted to suspend the 25-cents-a-gallon tax on gasoline for three-months from April 1 through June 30. Bipartisan legislation passed today also includes free transit buses through June 30 and a second one-week sales tax holiday on clothing.

The sales tax holiday planned for April 10th – April 16th will replicate the holiday already budgeted for August. It exempts the purchase of clothing and shoes under $100 from the 6.35% sales tax.

With the state having access to federal aid as well as facing a budget surplus, now is the time to do whatever we can to bring immediate relief to Connecticut residents. Though it is not a cure-all, this action will provide some relief at the pump for Connecticut residents, especially middle-class families who are trying to make ends meet.
