Youth Eating Disorder & Nutrition Awareness Panel

April 5, 2022

Last week, I joined the Hartford delegation for a Youth Eating Disorder & Nutrition Awareness Panel Discussion at The Village in Hartford.

Our discussion touched on how we as elected officials can continue efforts to address eating disorders in our state's youth. We also had the privilege of being joined by a group of nutrition specialists and professionals who offered insight on nutritional awareness.

Children's mental health is one of the top priorities this legislative session. Part of that commitment is shining a spotlight on areas that are often left in the shadows.

I want to offer a special thank you to Connecticut House Speaker Matt Ritter for hosting the event and a number of my legislative colleagues for remaining committed to this issue and attending the event: Senator Doug McCrory, State Representatives Minnie Gonzalez, Julio Concepcion, Tammy Exum, Joshua Hall and Edwin Vargas. I also want to thank all the panelists who spoke: Dr. Laine Taylor (The Village for Families & Children), Dr. Jennifer Downs (Hartford Healthcare's Institute of Living), Dr. Melissa Santos (CT Children's Medical Center), and Dr. Kelly Maynes (CT Children's Medical Center).
