Final Days of the 2022 Legislative Session

May 10, 2022

We have reached the end of the 2022 Legislative Session! This has been a very productive session and we've passed many critical pieces of legislation to benefit the residents of Connecticut. I'll be sharing session highlights in the coming days and weeks.

On the last day of session, I had a moment to send message of love and support to my wife, Jenny, who is going through a difficult time after the loss of her father. Please click below to watch:

This week, we passed two critical bills to address the children's mental health crisis.
SB 1 AN ACT CONCERNING CHILDHOOD MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH SERVICES IN SCHOOLS, expands services at school-based health centers to provide direct care to students experiencing mental and physical health issues. Another amazing aspect of this bill is that it requires Asian American and Pacific Islander studies to be included in social studies curriculum for Connecticut public schools.

SB 2 AN ACT EXPANDING PRESCHOOL AND MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN, expands resources not just in schools, but also in early childhood. See below for major components.

House Approves Juneteenth as a State Holiday

We overwhelmingly passed SB 350, recognizing Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865, as a state holiday.

We cannot understate the importance of Juneteenth. It is a celebration of resilience, of culture and American history. It is emblematic of freedom for African Americans and for us all. It is a reminder of how far our country has come, and how far we still have to go.
