Rep. Delany Legislative Update 5/13

May 13, 2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have been well and have been enjoying the warmer weather.

I know that times may seem tumultuous both federally and abroad. However, please be reassured in knowing that my colleagues and I have been working hard to uphold the values and secure the resources that are vital to our community.

This past week I have spent time with our state and community leaders to ensure that pressing legislation was passed into law, and that our city was educated on some of state funding we will be receiving.

As always, I write this correspondence with our community foremost in my mind, and hope this information will be beneficial to you and your neighbors.

Below is more detailed information on some of the resources secured, legislation enacted, and upcoming events for Stamford:

GOVERNOR LAMONT SIGNS
THE REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM DEFENSE ACT

This week, my colleagues in the Reproductive Rights Caucus stood together as Governor Lamont signed the
Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, a transformative piece of legislation that will protect medical providers and out-of-state patients seeking abortion care in Connecticut. Additionally, the law expands abortion access in Connecticut by expanding the type of practitioners eligible to perform certain abortion-related care.

At a press conference, Wednesday at West Hill High School in Stamford, Senator Pat Billie Miller, the other members of the Stamford Delegation, Mayor Simmons, Mayor Rilling along with city and Board of Education leaders announced the game changing items that we fought for in the state budget such as:

Over 200 Million for a New West Hill High School: Our recently passed state budget increases the state reimbursement for the Westhill High School project from 20% to 80%!! this translates $206.4 million in state funding for the Westhill High School project alone.

25 Years of More Affordable Repairs: Our new state budget also increased the state school construction grant formula to 60% for future projects for the next 25 years. This is for every project submitted after June 1, 2022-June 30, 2047. The old rate for renovations and renovate as new before the governor signed the budget was 30% in Stamford.

I want to extend a special thank you to Senator Pat Miller and Mayor Caroline Simmons for your leadership, my colleagues in the Stanford delegation for working together to get this done, Senate President Martin Looney, our Superintendent Dr. Lucero, all of our local officials.

And thank you to Governor Ned Lamont for signing the state budget!!
