Work as a DEEP Lifeguard this Summer

Are you or someone you know looking for a good-paying summer job? The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection recently announced that starting pay for lifeguards increased to $19 per hour, with a salary range of $19 to $21 per hour!

Lifeguard positions are still available at several inland and shoreline swimming areas, including Burr Pond State Park in Torrington. Additional openings include:

  • Black Rock State Park, Watertown 
  • Indian Well State Park, Shelton 
  • Sherwood Island State Park, Westport 
  • Silver Sands State Park, Milford 
  • Squantz Pond State Park, New Fairfield 

In addition to the increased starting pay, all training required to work as a lifeguard at State Park beaches will be paid. DEEP will hold a pre-requisite swim test for applicants on June 11 and 12. Applicants are encouraged to apply before the test on June 11. 

Hours of work are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 5 days a week. Most weekends and July 4 are mandatory. The minimum age for lifeguards is 16 and 18 for lifeguard supervisors.
