Windham/Willimantic NAACP to Host Juneteenth Flag Raising

June 15, 2022

On Thursday, June 16 at 4;30 p.m., join the Windham/Willimantic Branch of the NAACP and Town of Windham for its Juneteenth Flag Raising at the Windham Town Hall!

Juneteenth Independence Day is the oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It is a celebration of resilience, of culture and American history. It is a reminder of how far our country has come and how far we still have to go.

We cannot understate the importance of Juneteenth. I'm proud to have voted on legislation this session to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday. Last week, the bill was signed into law. It will take effect on October 1, 2022, meaning that the first time Juneteenth Independence Day is legally recognized as a state holiday in Connecticut will be on July 19, 2023.
