Next Monday, July 25, at 10AM, there will be a Puerto Rican Flag Raising Ceremony on the South Lawn of the State Capitol in Hartford! Please join Rep. Geraldo Reyes, Chair or the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), and other guests as they look to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and traditions, and symbolism of the flag.

Temperatures in Connecticut are set to reach more than 90 degrees with a heat index of triple digits at times. Connecticut's extreme hot weather protocol is in effect through 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies, municipalities, and other partners to coordinate with the United Way/2-1-1 to make sure that information about cooling centers is available statewide so people can get some relief from the heat.

Below are cooling centers in our area.

East Hartford:

  • East Hartford Public Safety Complex Lobby, 31 School St, Open 24/7
  • East Hartford Public Library, 840 Main St, Monday and Friday 9AM to 5PM; Tuesday- Thursday 9AM to 8PM; Saturday 10AM to 2PM
  • East Hartford Senior Center, 15 Milbrook Dr, Monday - Friday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM.

Manchester

  • Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St, Monday - Thursday 9AM to 9PM; Friday and Saturday 9AM to 5PM
  • Whiton Branch Library, 100 North Main St, Monday - Thursday 10AM to 8:30PM; Friday 9AM to 5PM
  • Manchester Senior Center, 549 East Middle Tpke, Monday - Friday 9AM to 4PM

South Windsor

  • South Windsor Public Library, 1550 Sullivan Ave, Monday - Thursday 9AM to 8PM; Friday 9AM to 4:30PM; Saturday 9AM to 1 PM
  • Charles N. Enes Community Center, 150 Nevers Rd, Monday - Friday 8AM to 4:30PM

Anyone in need of a cooling center should call 2-1-1 or look online at 211ct.org to find their nearest location.

Intro to Dance with the Hartford Dance Collective - Saturday, July 23 from 9 AM to 10 AM, Great River Park, 301 East River Dr. 
Have you ever wanted to learn to dance but have no prior dance experience? Riverfront Recapture and the Hartford Dance Collective are partnering to provide an introductory dance workshop. There will be individualized instruction and attention so participants can learn dance fundamentals in a fun and welcoming environment. The suggested donation is $5. Learn more here.
 
The Sounds of Summer Concert Series - Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM, Great River Park, 301 East River Dr.
There are two performances left of the Town of East Hartford's "Sounds of Summer" Concert Series! On Thursday, July 28, don't miss The Score's performances of classic party rock. Bring your picnic basket, your friends and family for this relaxing outdoor concert on the Connecticut River. Click here to learn more.
 
National Night Out with the East Hartford Police Department - Tuesday, August 2 from 2 PM to 4 PM, Gorman Park, May Rd; 5 PM to 7 PM, Martin Park, Burnside Ave
Join the Town of East Hartford and East Hartford Police Department for "America's Night Out Against Crime." Events will take place starting at 2 PM at two East Hartford locations (Gorman Park and Martin Park). This town wide block party will feature music, games, police K-9 and vehicles, and refreshments. MACC Manchester Farmers Market at Forest St - Saturdays from 8 AM to 12:30 PM, Forest St
The Manchester Farmers Market  is happening every Saturday through October 29. Get to know area agriculture producers and purchase locally grown produce, flowers, herbs, and more! WIC coupons are accepted. Learn more here
 
Summer Concert Series at Center Memorial Park - Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM, 586 Main St
It's a summer of music in Manchester! Every Thursday at Center Memorial Park, bring a picnic basket and loved ones to enjoy free summer concerts. The next performance will be on Thursday, July 28. Concerts will run through Thursday, August 11. To learn more, click here.

Manchester Bicentennial Band Shell Concert Series - Fridays from 7 PM to 9 PM, 60 Bidwell St
Don't miss free performances at the Manchester Bicentennial Band Shell every Friday night through August 12! The next concert is today, July 22. Bring your friends, a comfortable chair, snacks and water and whatever else you need to enjoy the Band Shell's 45th summer season. There is a no smoking policy. Dog owners can bring their dog- and people-friendly canine and enjoy the show from the "Band Shell Dog Park." Learn more here.

 
Manchester National Night Out - Tuesday, August 2, events starting at 5:30 PM, Waddell Pool, Charter Oak Park, Leisure Labs at Mahoney Center, Northwest Park
A night of fun is in store during Manchester's National Night Out community block party! This event promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Here's a look at what the town has planned:

Paws in the Park - Saturday, July 23 from 10 AM to 7 PM, John J. Mitchell Fairgrounds, 75 Brookfield St
The Paws in the Park FREE Food and Craft Festival is fun for the whole family (including your four-legged family members). Proceeds will benefit TRACS, the South Windsor Bark Park, and Fidelco. South Windsor Parks & Recreation Department Summer Concert Series - Thursdays, 7 PM to 9 PM, Evergreen Walk Park at the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk

South Windsor Teen Center Car Wash for a Cause - Tuesday, August 2 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, South Windsor Community Center Parking Lot, 150 Nevers Rd
Have your car washed for a good cause on August 2! Proceeds from the SW Teen Center's car wash will be donated to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). You can register your vehicle by calling 860-648-6390 or emailing Danielle.Bifolck@southwindsor-ct.gov. The fundraiser is held in honor of Officer Ben Lovett.
