September is National Senior Center Month

September is known as National Senior Center month and the East Hartford Senior Center will be celebrating it with a variety of free and exciting events and programs all month long! To learn more or register for either program below, contact the East Hartford Senior Center at 860-291-7460.
 
Senior Center Extended Hours:
Starting on Thursday, September 1st, 2022, the East Hartford Senior Center will be extending their hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 7:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to Noon. The Senior Center is open to all East Hartford residents who are 55 years of age or older.  There will be evening programming scheduled, and a fitness center will be available. Please monitor the town website for a list of activities and times of events at www.easthartfordct.gov/senior-services.
 
Senior Center Seeks Volunteers:
To accommodate extended hours, the East Hartford Senior Center is seeking volunteers to cover evening and Saturday shifts. The available volunteer hours are as follows:
 
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am

If you are interested in running the café or instructing a class on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, or on Saturday mornings, please call Ruth at (860) 291-7498 or stop by the East Hartford Senior Center to fill out volunteer paperwork.
 
Fun and Exciting Programs:
 

  • Free Group Exercises
    Available throughout September.

    The East Hartford Senior Center will be offering free group exercise classes for the month of September. East Hartford senior residents are invited to try a new class or continue to take classes they love. Seniors must sign up for classes as spaces are limited. To sign up, call the East Hartford Senior Center at 860-291-7460. 

  • Big Bucks Bingo
    Tuesdays, beginning September 6th at 5:30 pm

The East Hartford Senior Center will be holding an evening of Big Bucks Bingo every Tuesday beginning September 6th. Each card will be $2.00 with a 5 card maximum. You must register in advance for Bingo. To register, please call the East Hartford Senior Center at 860-291-7460. Seating is limited.
 

  • “Home” Cooked Meal
    Wednesday, September 14th at noon.

The East Hartford Senior Center will be serving a “home-cooked” meal of BBQ chicken, corn salad, baked beans and cornbread on Wednesday September 14th at noon. This lunch is free of charge, but seating is limited. To get a ticket for this meal, visit the East Hartford Senior Center Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
 

  • Indoor Carnival
    Wednesday September 14th at 1:00 pm
    Join the East Hartford Senior Center indoor carnival and play some fun carnival games. There will be prizes for the winners of the games! Refreshments will be served.  Come and have some fun with us!
  • Trivia Night
    Thursday, September 15th at 5:30 pm

The East Hartford Senior Center will be hosting a trivia night on Thursday, September 15th at 5:30 pm. Join us for a fun-filled game of trivia! Trivia questions will be on a wide variety of topics, so there will be something for everyone.
 

  • One-year Anniversary Party
    Wednesday September 21st at 1:00 pm

    The East Hartford Senior Center will be celebrating its one-year anniversary on Wednesday September 21st at 1:00 pm. Join us for Hors d’oeuvres and mocktails. Entertainment with Jim Harkins, featuring music of familiar songs made famous by Willie Nelson, The Beatles, Dean Martin, Jim Croce, Michael Buble’, Johnny Cash, and many others.

  • Pasta & Meatballs Dinner
    Thursday, September 29th at 5:30 pm

The East Hartford Senior Center will be serving pasta and meatballs on Thursday September 29th at 5:30 pm.  Entertainment by the Guinea Pigs at 6:00 pm.  Tickets are $10 for Senior Center members and $12 for non-members.  Seating is limited.
