Dear Neighbor,

I hope you've been well. As the holiday season progresses, if you are able, please consider helping those in need by donating to a local charity. With the large increase in refugees to our state, our resettlement agencies are conducting winter toy and coat drives. This past legislative session we were able to, for the first time ever, secure $1 million in funding to help our resettlement agencies support refugees during the period between the Federal funding drying up and before they are economically independent. If you are looking for a worthy cause to contribute toward, I’ve included information below.

Improving Fiscal Outlook for Connecticut

Improving Fiscal Outlook for Connecticut
I am pleased to report that responsible budgeting and major structural changes made to the teachers' and state employees' retirement plans, as well as our pensions, are putting Connecticut on much more solid fiscal ground and saving taxpayers billions in debt payments.

The Office of Policy and Management noted the state employee and teacher unfunded pension liabilities have been reduced by a billion dollars in the last year. Combined with other recent deposits, the state will save $9.4 billion over the next 25 years.

Millions of dollars that would have otherwise gone to debt payments can be freed up to continue investments in childcare, mental health, higher education, workforce training, infrastructure, and continued tax relief, to improve the quality of life for all residents.

CT Insider Article
While our fiscal outlook is good, we remain cautious, and remain disciplined in our budgeting.

I will continue working with my colleagues to help make sure we set realistic expectations for our revenue and spending policies to keep our state moving in the right direction.

Flu Vaccine Week
Imagine you're sick with the flu for weeks and then have to suffer from risky complications like:

 Pneumonia
Sinus Infections
 Ear Infections
 Myocarditis (Heart inlammation)
Encephalitis (Brain inflammation)
Myositis (Muscle tissue inflammation)
 Respiratory Failure
 Kidney Failure
and the list goes on...

The flu shot helps prevent millions of these flu-related cases each year. Head to vaccines.gov to find a location today!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Leeper
State Representative
