Opening Day 2023
It's Opening Day of the 2023 legislative session. Opening Day is always an exciting day full of friends, family and collogues – old and new.
Today I begin my second term as Speaker of the House. It is the honor of a lifetime to be renominated by Majority Leader Jason Rojas and Minority Leader Vin Candelora and be sworn in by my sister Jessica with my family on the dais.
I asked the members to be present (physically present) this session…we do our best work when we are together. We are, after all, a representative democracy. I also reminded them of the good work we have done rebuilding Connecticut's finances. We have the tools to provide in the present AND protect the future by continuing to pay down debt.
Even during times of strife, we can set aside politics and do our jobs.
