Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have been staying warm and healthy during this winter months.

These past few days, I have had the pleasure and opportunity to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds - from community leaders and activists to teachers and small businesses owners. And there is a quote I will share that best captures my feelings from this past week.

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” - Henry Ford Sr.

As I continue to work and represent you in Hartford, I am continuously blown away by the power of teamwork, and the potential of each of us to be a force for positive change.

Below you will find summaries on our fight for reproductive rights, highlights on local events I have attend, and observances and programs that I hope will be useful to you and your family.

FIGHTING FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Last week, I was proud to stand with my colleagues in the Reproductive Rights Caucus as we announced our 2023 priorities.

This year, we are working on legislation to ensure that our residents can decide when and if they want to have a family and access to the information and services they need, as well as a broad range of legislative initiatives.

I would like to give a sincere thank you to our co-chairs Jillian Gilchrest and Matt Blumenthal for their leadership and Speaker Matt Ritter and CT Treasurer Eric Russel for your steadfast support.

    • Increase the parity and reimbursement rates for providers of Family Planning services

    • Support the establishment of a Safe Harbor Fund

BOOK GIVEAWAY

Last Saturday, I had a wonderful time at the Books Across Stamford Winter Wonderland Giveaway.

I spent the afternoon reading stories to kids, giving away children’s books, and discussing our community with the families in attendance.

Reading is so important to the educational and emotional development of our community, and it is encouraging to see our city creating fun and new ways of bringing the gift of reading to kids.

I would like to thank you to the Stamford Public Education Foundation, The Ferguson Library, and  Reading is Fundamental for hosting this incredible event.

Don’t forget! You can also visit www.stamfordrecreation.com for a list of the City of Stamford Recreation Services and upcoming winter programs and camps for kids.

COMMERCE AND COMMUNITY

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce hosted my colleagues and I for a legislative breakfast a few days ago. We reviewed the fiscal health of the state, answered meaningful questions from members of the community, and discussed ideas on how to make Stamford and all of Fairfield County a better place for our businesses and residents.

I would like to thank The Stamford Chamber of Commerce and Harry Carey for organizing and moderating the event, and I would also like to thank my legislative colleagues for joining me in engaging with our community!

CAREERCONNECT EXPANDS INTAKE PORTAL
Great news! CareerConneCT is expanding its intake portal. The goal of CareerConneCT is to provide underemployed and unemployed Connecticut residents with resources and training necessary for the pursuit of a well-paying, high-quality career path. The program provides free job training, case management, supportive services, and employment assistance.
Interested jobseekers should enroll through an online intake portal. Once enrolled, participants will be connected to reskilling, upskilling, or next-skilling opportunities in various in demand fields, such as manufacturing, information technology, health care, infrastructure and clean energy.

Once registered in the portal, participants will complete a brief skills inventory and then receive a Career Coach who will help them access training that meets their skills and interests. Participants also can explore career paths, learning opportunities and available jobs.
