UPGRADES TO PUBLIC SCHOOL AIR FILTRATION SYSTEMS

I’m proud to announce that Stamford Public Schools will be receiving nearly $2.8 million for upgrades to its air filtration system. It’s part of a larger $56 million statewide investment to improve heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for public schools.

The grants are being awarded through the HVAC Indoor Air Quality Grants Program for Public Schools, a newly established state program that is administered by the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services.

Here is a list of the schools that will be receiving state grant funding.

  • Westover Magnet Elementary School: $802,700.03
  • Stamford High School: $693,566.83
  • Rippowam Middle School: $493,271.60
  • Davenport Ridge Elementary School: $421,566.57
  • Julia Stark Elementary School: $289,142.34
  • Cloonan Middle School: $96,216.69

These funds do not cover the entire cost of the project, but these grants will most definitely help make the upgraded air filtration systems a reality.

MILLIONS IN STATE FUNDING COMING TO STAMFORD

Stamford will be receiving around $3.5 million in state grants under the Community Investment Fund 2030 for a pair of projects.

$2,450,000 will go toward the construction of 39 new affordable housing units in a four-story building on Stillwater Avenue with a mix of one, two, and three bedroom units to serve individuals and their families. The ground floor will include offices for the Pacific House Shelter, where it plans to provide case management services.

Another $1,092,200 in CIF funding will complete the design and engineering for the city’s pedestrian infrastructure plan for pedestrian safety and mobility on the side streets of the West Side neighborhood. These improvements aim to reduce speeding, add new crosswalks, increase tree coverage, improve pedestrian safety with raised crosswalks and bump outs, and enhance transit stop facilities in a neighborhood with the highest rate of pedestrian crashes in the city.

UCONN CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE

I want to congratulate the UConn men's basketball team for winning the men's Division I national championship! The Huskies claimed a fifth title in program history after defeating the San Diego State Aztecs on Monday night.

The team's entire run during March Madness has unified our great state! They have made all of Connecticut proud! We can't wait to celebrate with the team in Hartford.

A victory parade will begin Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and will step off from the State Capitol building at the intersection of Trinity Street and Elm Street. From there, it will proceed north on Trinity Street, go through the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch, and eventually end at the intersection of Asylum and Trumbull Streets.

The rally will begin around noon and will be held outside of the main entrance of the XL Center, where the players, coaches, and other guests will give speeches. Come and out and show your Husky pride.

ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION

Fittingly, the festivities come two days after National Student-Athlete Day! The benefits of being a student-athlete go far beyond being in the starting lineup. Sports help students develop traits like teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, physical endurance, commitment, time management, and personal and emotional health that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives!

HOLY WEEKEND

This is a weekend that includes Passover, Easter Sunday, and the continuation of Ramadan. This is a time where families and friends come together and reflect on their various faiths. Only three times in a century will Easter fall at the same time as Passover and Ramadan. I wish everyone a Happy Holy Weekend as we honor all three Abrahamic religions.
