We need to get a serious cleanup underway for Piper Brook. I visited this beautiful green space, which flows through the Hartford and West Hartford line. While I was there, I saw ducks, geese, and blue heron. Unfortunately, this area has been neglected for far too long. Below you can see plastics, tires, shopping carts, and all kinds of other debris on the riverbank and in the water. In addition, an invasive plant species is thriving there.

Crews cleaned up the sidewalk and bridge as well as mowing the turf. Despite that work, we need to do more. I'm reaching out to the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection to help clean up this eyesore in order to protect the birds and fish that live in Piper Brook. Most importantly, I want the residents to be able to enjoy this natural resource.
