Celebrating Pride Month, Overcoming Burnout, and Partial Train Tunnel Collapse

June 1, 2023

It’s June 1, and we’re celebrating the lives and accomplishments of all our friends for Pride Month. When we are more accepting of our peers, our community shines the brightest. Please take a moment this month to expose yourself and learn more about the LGBTIQA+ community.

Also, please read below to see how The Hub is trying to help everyone understand and overcome burnout and be sure to check out the latest after a partial ceiling collapse at our Metro-North station.

PRIDE MONTH CELEBRATION

The purpose of Pride Month is to recognize the impact that LGBTIQA+ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. Pride Month is a joyful celebration of all the beautiful identities of our LGBTIQA+ community. We create spaces where we can bring ourselves to dance and march in the streets.

Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969 to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity. Despite decades of progress, there is still plenty of work to be done.

This June feels different because Pride Month s arriving amid a slew of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills and growing hostility. It is more important than ever to be better allies and speak out against this hatred. When lives and rights are under attack, we must get serious about how we're standing up and supporting LGBTQIA+ community. Encouraging greater acceptance and support for all youth will make communities, schools, and other settings safer, better places for everyone.

UNDERSTANDING AND OVERCOMING BURNOUT

Burnout is the result of prolonged and excessive stress, leading to a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion. It is a common problem among professionals, particularly those who work in high-pressure environments. Increasingly, burnout is being felt by high school and college students as well.

Burnout can affect anyone, from children and teens to older adults. It leaves a person feeling emotionally drained, overwhelmed, and unable to meet their many demands. The stress from burnout can lead to a lack of motivation, reduced productivity, hopelessness, resentment, and even increased alcohol and substance use. If ongoing, it can spiral into various physical and mental health problems.

Read the Hub's blog to learn how burnout is different than stress and what you can do to overcome it.

Thankfully, the train station remains open with detours, and trains are still running on their normal schedule.
