Rep. Farrar Participates in White House State Legislative Convening on Reproductive Rights
June 16, 2023State Representative Kate Farrar (D-West Hartford, Newington) participated in the White House State Legislative Convening on Reproductive Rights which was held on Thursday in Washington. The event brought together more than 80 state legislators from 41 states to accentuate state-level attacks on reproductive rights and discuss efforts to protect and expand access to abortion care.
During the convening, Representative Farrar had the opportunity to highlight her extensive work advocating for reproductive rights and healthcare access in Connecticut. This year, Representative Farrar championed the passage of S.B. 1108, which requires higher education institutions to establish a plan for providing reproductive health care services to students living on residential campuses.
"Reproductive rights are crucial in ensuring that every individual has the autonomy to choose what happens to their own body and future. By sharing best practices and learning from other states, Connecticut can continue to take a leading role in promoting reproductive justice and accessibility to essential care," said Representative Farrar. "I remain committed to advocating for reproductive rights and healthcare policies that support all individuals in our state."
The White House State Legislative Convening on Reproductive Rights comes at a crucial time, just ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, emphasizing the critical nature of the discussion. The event focused on a range of issues related to reproductive healthcare, including access to contraception and abortion care. Participants discussed strategies for advancing policies that protect and expand access to these essential services.
