New Riverfront Park in Waterbury

June 30, 2023

The city of Waterbury is celebrating the opening of its newest greenway and park, which is along the beautiful Naugatuck River. Platt Park is at the corner of Platts Mill Road and South Main Street near the Naugatuck town line. You, your friends, and family can now get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peaceful trail, which flanks the entire river in Waterbury.

You can bring your kayak and enjoy the water!

Platt Park was not accessible to the public until a resident donated seven acres to the city. The federal government provided $6.3 million in funding on this project, which includes trails and signs. The goal is to extend the greenway for 45 miles, which would connect Seymour all the way to Torrington. The feds have already approved millions more in funding to complete the work.

I thank Mayor Neil O’Leary, Waterbury Greenway Advisory Committee Chair Kenneth Curran, and everyone else involved with the vision to showcase our gorgeous green space. We could not have created this amazing greenway without you.
