Updates from State Rep. Chris Poulos - June 23, 2023

June 23, 2023
The 2023 Legislative Session finished on June 7 and I am looking forward to recapping and updating Southington residents about what we accomplished, including passage of a two-year balanced and bipartisan budget, which includes the largest-ever reduction in the state income tax and other tax-relief measures.

Please join me along with House Majority Leader Jason Rojas at the Southington Public Library on Thursday, June 29 at 6 p.m. for a session debriefing on the work we did in Hartford.

We stayed within the fiscal guardrails, continued to pay down our long-term debt obligations and set ourselves up for future growth.

The nonpartisan Office of Legislative Research has published its 2023 Major Public Acts report for the session. Please click here to read before Thursday's recap.

I hope to see you there, and as always, thanks for taking the time to read this and the other items below!

Southington Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Megan Evans, literacy specialist at Strong Elementary School, for being named Southington's 2023-2024 District Teacher of the Year.

Megan (pictured below in the middle) was surprised with the announcement last week from her principal and visiting officials: (left to right) Superintendent Steve Madancy, Principal Melissa Barbuto, Assistant Superintendent Frank Pepe, and Teacher of the Year Coordinator Chris Palmieri. Thank you, Megan, for all you do on behalf of Southington's children. I wish you continued success in your professional endeavors and hope to visit your classroom in the fall.

Drainage Repairs
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that drainage repairs will be performed on Route 509 (Clark Street) and Route 10 (South Main Street) in Southington from July 10-28.

CTDOT said motorists can expect lane closures. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone.

Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Also, please maintain a safe speed when driving in this work zone.
