Updates from State Rep. Chris Poulos - June 30, 2023

June 30, 2023
It was great to see so many of you Thursday night at the Southington Public Library for my debrief of the 2023 Legislative Session.

I was proud to share how the bipartisan biennial budget will lower taxes and positively impact Southington. I also shared a number of significant wins for our town that came out of the session that will benefit public education, small businesses, our veterans, public safety and the environment.

Thank you to House Majority Leader Jason Rojas for joining me and sharing his insights and perspective on our work in Hartford.

CTDOT Meeting

This week, I met with local contractors and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) officials to learn about and discuss the details of an ongoing project on a challenging stretch of Queen Street in Southington. Bringing residents and state agencies together to work toward win-win outcomes has been a priority for me.

State-Federal Alignment

Proud to share with Southington residents and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal the story of the bipartisan effort that State Representative Francis Cooley (R-Farmington, Plainville, Southington), and I put forth in support of PA 23-125. This new law allows mobile homeowners the right of first refusal to purchase the land on which their homes are placed and that aligns with Senator Blumenthal's Mobile Home Bill of Rights legislation on the federal level.

Funding Approved for Plantsville

State funding from CTDOT through the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP) is set for a long-simmering streetscape improvement project in downtown Plantsville. The $4.3 million project will realign the West Main Street and Route 10 intersection slightly to improve sight lines in addition to providing other safety and aesthetics upgrades for the area. This project will not only beautify and make downtown Plantsville safer but will ultimately contribute to its economic development.

The project will also make improvements to the Farmington Canal Heritage trail crossing to make it safer for pedestrians.
